Speaker Biography
Dale Clarke
Dale has worked in the IT industry for over 45 years as a requirements analyst, trainer, and technology integrator. He is author of the “SharePoint Roles and Responsibilities” whitepaper presented at last year’s RSUG and published on SUGNOVA.org.
• When IBM built the IBM 360 and implemented VM/CMS he was a VM system programmer and designed novel virtualization configurations for Boeing Commercial Aircraft Company (BCAC) and Litton Computer Services (LCS).
• For a decade he was Technical Director for CAP Gemini America, Sogeti.
• Then award winning Webmaster for the Bureau of African Affairs as well as East Asian and Pacific Affairs Bureau of the US Department of State.
• He is currently a contractor for FannieMae on Loss Forecast Modeling and recording SOPs, checklists, initiatives and tasking workflows in MOSS and developing and presenting training courses for SharePoint Resources.
• He holds a Master in the British Computing Society and Suma Cum Laude (B.S, Computer Information Systems) at Strayer University.
Shawn Cooney
Shawn Cooney is a founder of Certeon, with more than 25 years of experience in information and network security. Mr. Cooney has expertise in digital rights management, MPEG compression and networking security. He holds a patent in audio and video compression over IP networks and was a member of the IETF MPEG 4 Systems and Digital Rights Management committees. Prior to Certeon, he founded software copyright protection and digital media companies and was a Senior Consulting Engineer at EMC.
Michael DiCarlo
Michael DiCarlo has been building business applications throughout his IT career and certainly prefers the ‘no code’ way best. He has worked for major telecom companies like UUNet, WorldCom, Verizon and Nextel, as well as small software startups. Prior to joining CorasWorks as a Solution Consultant, Mike worked as Remedy developer, business systems analyst, and project manager. Mike now manages commercial accounts in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions of the U.S. as well as Eastern Canada.
Greg Galipeau
Greg Galipeau is currently a Project Manager at RDA Corporation. In addition Greg is also the IW/Collaboration Evangelist Team Leader at RDA. The IW/Collaboration Evangelist Team at RDA is dedicated to the growth and knowledge of SharePoint and other collaboration tools within Microsoft. Greg has been working with SharePoint since the 2001 version and has been involved in numerous custom application efforts centered around SharePoint during his employment at RDA. Greg has been coding in .net since it came out and is Microsoft Certified – MCPD, MCSD, MCAD, MTS (SQL Server 2005), MTS(SharePoint). Susan Hanley
Susan Hanley, President of Susan Hanley LLC, is a recognized expert in the design, development and implementation of successful portal solutions, with a specialization in Microsoft SharePoint. Immediately prior to establishing SUSAN HANLEY LLC, Sue led the Portals, Collaboration, and Content Management practice at Dell Professional Services (formerly Plural, Inc.). Sue joined Plural (which was acquired by Dell in 2003) after more than 18 years of consulting experience at American Management Systems, Inc. (AMS). In 1995, she became the first Director of Knowledge Management for AMS, a position she held for five years. Sue also helped develop AMS’s knowledge management consulting practice. Prior to establishing the AMS Knowledge Centers, she was a project manager and business analyst on a variety of consulting engagements. Her areas of expertise include portal solutions and information architecture, knowledge management, and systems development life-cycle methodology.

Sue Hanley is a frequent writer and speaker on the topic of implementing successful intranet portal solutions, building communities of practice and measuring the value of knowledge management investments. In September 1997, she was recognized by Consultants News as one of the key “knowledge leaders” at major consulting firms. She has presented top-rated presentations at many conferences in the North America and Europe. Her byline articles have appeared in Knowledge Management Review, Management Consultant International, DM Review, Information Week, and The Cutter IT Journal. She is also a featured author in the books Knowledge Management and Virtual Organizations (2000), Knowledge Management: The Foundation for Electronic Government (2001), the Handbook of Knowledge Management (2002), and Knowledge Management Tools and Techniques (2004), and currently writes a blog on collaboration technologies for Network World Magazine that can be found at http://www.networkworld.com/community/?q=sharepoint. Sue is the co-author of the 2007 book Essential SharePoint 2007: Developing High Impact Collaboration Solutions (Essential SharePoint). Sue is also a primary author of the Metrics Guide for Knowledge Management Initiatives published by the U.S. Department of the Navy CIO. This document has been widely distributed around the world and has become the foundation for knowledge management metrics programs at many organizations in the public and private sector. Sue is also the author of a white paper on the organizational and cultural issues associated with deploying Windows SharePoint Services for Microsoft. Sue has an MBA from the University of Maryland at College Park and a BA in Psychology from the Johns Hopkins University. She is a founding member of the Northern Virginia KM Roundtable and the Queens University KM Forum. She served on the Board of Governors for the Syracuse University School of Information Studies and the Board of Governors for the George Washington University Institute for Knowledge Management. From 2001-2005, Sue Hanley served as a member of Microsoft's Partner Advisory Council for Portals and Collaboration.
Ed Hild
Ed Hild is the Technology Architect at the Microsoft Technology Center in Reston, VA specializing in Portal and Collaboration solutions. At the MTC, he meets daily with both commercial- and public-sector customer to discuss business requirements and map them to the Microsoft platform. He helps customers understand product features, best practices, and necessary customizations for them to realize SharePoint’s full potential. Ed is a dynamic speaker and has previously presented at Microsoft Dev Days, Tech Ed, and Microsoft SharePoint Conference events as well as many local area user groups. He recently published an advanced SharePoint developer book through Apress entitled: Pro SharePoint Solution Development. Ed’s previous experiences include a high school teacher, government contractor, and lead developer at a Microsoft partner.
Nelson Johnson
Nelson Johnson is president of Eccountable, a consulting firm in the DC area. He is a senior executive with 27 years experience developing technology solutions for business, government, and education. Mr. Johnson has a B.S. degree in Management Information System and Decision Sciences from George Mason University. Mr. Johnson has been published in national publications, has served as editor of a national technology newsletter, and is currently the president of the largest SharePoint users group in the DC area. Some of his customers include American Express, Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland, Computer Sciences Corporation, Reed-Elsevier Publishing, Sunrise Assisted Living, and the National Captioning Institute. Mr. Johnson has implemented many successful solutions, including multi-million dollar projects, that demonstrate a common sense approach utilizing a combination of off-the-shelf software, custom software, and organizational management and procedural changes that make them work. Mr. Johnson has earned the prestigious Certified Computing Professional (CCP) designation from the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals.
Tony Lanni
Tony Lanni, AvePoint’s Vice President of Marketing, performs research and analysis on Microsoft SharePoint landscape and evaluates industry trends that impact the course of business. Tony co-develops strategies for new product design and works on enterprise-level data protection and management software deployments for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies. Tony’s extensive experience with SharePoint custom backup, recovery and administration applications has earned him multiple speaking opportunities within SharePoint communities and at technical events, such as Microsoft TechEd, Data Protection Summit and IBM Tivoli Nation

Tom Lin – VP of Strategic Alliances, AvePoint For a number of years Tom has been working exclusively with enterprise-level data protection and management software deployments for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies. Tom’s extensive experience with SharePoint custom backup and recovery applications has earned him multiple speaking opportunities within SharePoint communities and at technical events.
Sahil Malik
Sahil Malik has been a Microsoft MVP & INETA Speaker for many years, author of many books and numerous articles, consultant and trainer who delivers training and talks at conferences internationally. His talks are full of humor and practical nuggets. His talks tend to get very highly charged, fast moving, and highly interactive. Mark McGovern
Mark McGovern Manager, Solutions Mark McGovern holds the position of Manager, Solutions at DocPoint Solutions, a subsidiary of Quality Associates that focuses on providing top-notch services and software solutions for clients wishing to fully harness the power and collaborative capabilities of Microsoft SharePoint. At DocPoint Solutions, McGovern oversees the implementation of software, including comprehensive electronic content management (ECM) solutions. He also serves as a day-to-day technology resource for DocPoint Solutions’ clients. McGovern holds several technology certifications, including MCSE, MCSA CCNA, and is certified in Global Information Assurance by the SANS Institute. His extensive application, hardware and systems knowledge includes expertise with a wide range of Microsoft products, including Microsoft SharePoint. McGovern has also designed and overseen organizational IT policies and procedures to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Previously, McGovern was the Director of IT at Havas, one of the world’s largest advertising and media agencies. McGovern was responsible for the information systems at the North American headquarters of Havas in Murray Hill, New Jersey, which oversaw tax, accounting and treasury services for the company’s locations throughout North America. Earlier, McGovern served as a network administrator at Havas. Prior to that position, McGovern served in network administration and IT roles at companies that included Circle.com. McGovern was also the owner and president of Patapsco Technology Solutions, a technology consulting firm in Maryland.
Hemendra Patel
Hemendra Patel is a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer and Technology Specialist with 13+ years of background in software systems analysis, design, development, systems architecture, systems integration and relational databases. He has achieved successful software delivery track record covering Fortune 50 clients in the telecommunications, manufacturing, commercial and government sectors and currently he is working with Idea Integration as a SharePoint Architect.
Aaron Rafus
Aaron is the Collaboration Technology Evangelist at McKesson Corporation. He is responsible for programs to engage, educate, and empower users of Collaboration technologies inside of McKesson. He has over 15 years of experience in Internet/Intranet technologies. Ronald R. Simmons
Ronald R. Simmons Director of Knowledge Management Integration MCCDC/USMC Currently as the Marine Corps’ Director of KM Integration am building Virtual Work Environments (VWE) which apply KM concepts and principles within military operations. Not only has this practice been migrated within various State-side locations but personally guided the implementation of KM-Based VWE within Iraq operations during the summer of 2008. Previous to the Marine Corps was the lead of the Knowledge Services Network (KSN) which was a KM-based environment within the Federal Aviation Administration. This environment started with 50 users and has grown to over 150 FAA Business Units, over 1,500 teams and over 40,000 users. Dan Usher
Dan Usher, MCP, MCTS, Security+, is an Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton, where he is a lead SharePoint Solutions Manager and Architect. He has extensive experience with the Microsoft Windows Networking Infrastructure and has been implementing, customizing, architecting and deploying Enterprise collaboration solutions utilizing the Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies for the past 4 years.
Gary Vaughan
Gary is a SharePoint Governance Advisor to the State Department and a consultant with Worldwide Information Network Services (WINS). He is active in SUGNOVA, and authored a white paper for their last users conference on Maximizing Business Value from SharePoint: A Management and Govenance Perspective. Prior to his work on SharePoint, he was a career Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Agency for International Development, with a focus on project, program and knowledge management. He has graduate degrees in international relations, business administration and computer systems management.  
Zachary Wahl
Zachary Wahl Practice Leader, Knowledge Management Project Performance Corporation Mr. Wahl leads the Knowledge Management Practice at Project Performance Corporation, which has helped over 200 public and private organizations successfully implement portals and other knowledge management tools. He specializes in the development of business taxonomies and ontologies and the deployment of Enterprise Information Portals for a variety of organizations including Pratt & Whitney; Columbia University; the Department of Defense (DoD); the International Monetary Fund; and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Hal Hayes
Application developer and architect, Hal Hayes has been involved with developing, supporting, and managing business process applications, including SharePoint portal solutions, for over fifteen years. He is the founder of the Capital Area .NET User Group in Washington, DC, and Vice President of the Capital DotNetNuke User Group. Antonio Chagoury
Antonio Chagoury is the CEO and Chief Software Architect of Inspector IT Inc (www.inspectorit.com), a .net and DotNetNuke solutions provider based in the Washington DC Metro Area. As a member of the DotNetNuke Core team and project lead of the Blog module as well as the Installer utility, he is an active contributor and supporter DotNetNuke and Open Source. Tom Johnson
Tom Johnson is the Senior Director for Collaborative Process Solutions at Exostar. Tom came to Exostar from the Goodrich Corporation in May 2001 to lead the development of the product support teams. He has been Director of Product Operations, the Procurement Program and moved to his current position in 2004. Exostar’s ForumPass collaboration solution supports 4500 users in over 330 companies worldwide. Improvements in user deployment and completion of a major product upgrade in 2006 have received high praise from customers. Kathy Gessner
Kathy Gessner is an IT Consultant for Applied Knowledge Group, Inc. She has over 20 years experience implementing systems and training users and has successfully bridged the gap between the technical user and the non-technical user. The past 5 years Ms. Gessner has concentrated on the SharePoint environment in the areas of user adoption and knowledge management. She has a large body of SharePoint knowledge and Best Practices, and is passionate about her work.
Doug Davis
Doug Davis has worked in the IT industry for almost 20 years and is a noted SharePoint expert. As Quest’s Product Director of the SharePoint Business Group, he is responsible for the strategic roadmap for the Quest solutions that enhance this platform. Doug came to Quest through its acquisition of FastLane Technologies. Before Quest, he worked in IT and development at Telesat Canada, a Canadian satellite company. Doug holds a degree from Carleton University in Ottawa.
Eric Harlan
Eric Harlan has been in the I.T. industry for 10 years, involved with SharePoint for 6. Involved with many volunteer organizations from the Maryland Elder technology Outreach to President and Co-Founder of the Baltimore SharePoint Users group. As Principal Architect for Sogeti, Eric is the first on the ground to plan and initiate SharePoint engagements and guide them to fruition.
Sherry Grayson
Sherry has been working with SharePoint for over 3 years. She holds a BS in Computer Information Systems from Louisiana Tech University and a MS in Computer Science from Jackson State University. Sherry is also a PRINCE2 certified project manager and a Certified Knowledge Manager.
Chuck Anstrom
Chuck Anstrom is the software development manager for web delivery projects of the Pan American Health Organization, a regional office of the World Health Organization. He has supported the Agency for International Development (USAID), the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and the Department of the Army through the analysis, design and development and project management of LAN, Wan and web management information systems as a systems analyst, software development task leader, and project manager. While on active duty in the Army, Chuck served in various assignments as an armor officer, and taught Army Systems Management at the United State Military Academy.
Errin O'Connor
Errin O’Connor focuses his efforts on implementing Microsoft Technologies in organizations throughout the country. He manages EPC Group’s corporate strategy as well as architects the proven methodologies around collaboration, enterprise content management, and custom application development that have set EPC Group apart from its competitors. Errin is the author of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Inside Out by Microsoft Press. He has completed more than 100 highly successful individual SharePoint implementations and has worked with some of the largest organizations in the United States. He is also the founder of WebPartGallery.com an online solutions provider of SharePoint web parts and custom solutions and is a frequent speaker at Microsoft SharePoint events throughout the United States and Canada.
Tony Williams
Tony Williams is Lead Infrastructure Engineer at Portal Solutions, where he helps customers deploy and protect SharePoint Solutions. Over 7 years of working in the Microsoft collaboration suite including SharePoint, Exchange, and Project Server. 5 years spent in the hosting world with Exchange and SharePoint. Worked with Microsoft on Office 2003 and 2007 TAP programs.
Jonathan Distler
Mr. Distler has had the opportunity during the past 11 years to work with a wide variety of organizations using the Web strategically. Successful projects have spanned the non-profit and federal intelligence sectors, as well as foreign government agencies. Fluent in Spanish, Jonathan enjoys working for international organizations and within multicultural communities. His current role involves managing Arlington County’s intranet and internet teams, which provide both the technology platform and consulting services to business units on optimizing their use of web technologies. His team recently concluded a pilot of Microsoft SharePoint 2007 and is in the process of studying a phased expansion in 2009. Jonathan received his BA from the University of Virginia in 1996 and his MBA in Information Technology from the University of Maryland in 2004.
Bradley Thomas Smith
Bradley Thomas Smith is a business owner and entrepreneur living and working in Northern Virginia. He became involved in software development and consulting using Microsoft technologies after serving a tour in the United States Marine Corps, and his career has progressed rapidly. In 2005, Bradley founded Black Blade Associates, Inc. to provide high quality solutions to customers in the public and private sectors. Several individuals of exceptional ability have joined the firm, and Black Blade has established partnerships with several key systems integrators, consultant firms, and vendors in the Washington DC/Metro area and the Microsoft market segments. Personally, his work with MS Office server product teams led him to be provided a seat on the Office Developer Advisory Council in 2004, allowing Bradley to contribute towards upcoming Office Server products and subsequently, the Office 12 Technology Adoption Program. Over the course of his technical career, Bradley was awarded the Microsoft “Most Valued Professional” award for his continuing contributions in the general community for the next versions of SharePoint Products and Technologies and continuing dedication to work with and grow the defense and commercial markets for Microsoft business software.
Kevin Hans
Kevin Hans is the manager of the Knowledge Management unit for the American Red Cross. In this role he is responsible for the organization’s Best Practice System, its Neighborhoods (communities of practice) work, and periodic performance improvement benchmarking projects. While working at the American Red Cross, Mr. Hans also has had extensive experience with restructuring work processes.


Prior to joining the American Red Cross in 1995, Mr. Hans worked at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the General Accounting Office. Mr. Hans was a contributor to The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Knowledge Management by Melissie Rumizen and Five Key Principles of Corporate Performance Management by Bob Paladino. He earned his BA in Political Science at Buffalo State College and his MPA at American University.
Mark Mueller
Mueller has been in the IT industry for more than 18 years and has spent the 2 years with Infonic. His vast business experience ranges in a variety of fields including sales, marketing, consulting, and business management. He has worked closely with clients and engineers to oversee successful architectures and implementations of distributed SharePoint deployments.
